Teaching and Coaching

One of the greatest pleasures in life is helping others discover and celebrate their passions, recognize their talents, and develop the skills and practices needed to realize them. I view my teaching, tutoring, and coaching activities as an opportunity to do this.

I have taught creative and expository writing,  American literature, and proofreading. I enjoy working with students both in groups and individually, and consider the time I spend teaching some of my most rewarding and important work.

My experience as an educator includes curriculum development and site direction for education abroad programs in France, Italy, and Hawaii. I created, developed and have taught "Paris Through the Eyes of Travelers," "Hawaii: Island Paradise Where East and West Meet," and "Italy and France Through the Eyes of Travelers" for education abroad programs at the City University of New York (Hunter and Queens Colleges), and Florence University of the Arts.  I also created a unique experiential, interdisciplinary arts course ("The Arts in New York City") for the National Student Exchange Program at Hunter College, CUNY. This course  was written up in Humanities Education, and offered through Hunter's Division of Humanities and the Arts for 20 years. Next year this unique program of exposure to a wide variety of arts events will be introduced to NSE students at Queens College.

In the spring of 2008, my new writing workshop, "Writing from the Heart...in the Heart of Champagne" was the first course offered by the Essoyes School (www.essoyesschool.com).  And this summer, the eleventh annual "Paris Through the Eyes of Travelers" was offered in the famous "City of Light." (Stay tuned for postings of some wonderful writing samples created by my students.)

January 2009 marks my return to, and the Essoyes School's debut in, Oahu, where I will teach "Hawaii: Island Paradise Where East and West Meet"  Participants who wish to enroll for credit can do so through Queens College, CUNY; http://qcpages.qc.cuny.edu/studyabroad/2009Winter.html  (Those who do not need credit can enroll directly with the Essoyes School).

I am available for part-time teaching and lecturing as well as private tutoring and coaching.

Also, stay tuned for news about my upcoming online workshops!
